The core of Islandia was built around a 500-home development constructed by Levitt & Sons in 1963, offering residents a variety of single-family home models. Though buyers were initially told their children would attend Hauppauge schools, the community was eventually integrated into the Central Islip School District — a decision that marked one of the village’s earliest local controversies.
Honeysuckle Pond, located in Suffolk County’s Lakeland Park, is geographically part of Islandia and is considered a key natural feature of the village. The pond suffered periods of drought and low wildlife activity in 2016 and 2017, but remains a recognizable part of the area’s natural character.
Today, Islandia blends residential neighborhoods, light commercial zones, and recreational space — all of which benefit from expert elevator support. Island Elevator provides responsive service to buildings of all sizes across the village.
